WRVU LOSES A FRIEND IN KTRU

WRVU TAKES A ‘MINUTE OF SILENCE’ TO MOURN THE LOSS OF KTRU

Vanderbilt University’s student run campus radio station WRVU joined college radio stations across the country in a ‘minute of silence’ at noon on Thursday April 28th to mourn the loss of Rice University’s fellow student run station KTRU and to bring attention to the alarming number of college radio stations being sold to non-educational operators.

KTRU was recently sold to Houston’s NPR affiliate KUHF. The station was silenced and removed from their 91.7 frequency at 6 am on April 28th. The death knell has also rung for college stations at The University of San Francisco, Texas Tech University, Trevecca Nazarene University, Augustana College and Deefield Academy. Vanderbilt University is considering the sale of WRVU which has been on the air for over 50 years.
