Listen to This Message from Chuck D of Public Enemy!:
An unexpected upside to this SaveWRVU campaign – a movement of many (students, alumni, community members, artists, etc) to prevent an ill-conceived proposal to sell WRVU’s on-air license –  is the people, organizations, alumni, and artists that have come out of their way to show their support for WRVU.   It is worth going through some of those supporters now:
  • Vanderbilt students (see HERE and HERE )
  • 100s of Nashville denizens and community members (see HERE for more)
  • many dozens well informed former WRVU djs and staff members (see HERE for more)
  • numerous local businesses (see HERE for more)
  • Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream (see HERE for more)
  • renowned author Peter Guralnick (see HERE for more)
  • International recording artists: Cowboy Mouth, Waco Brothers, Mike Farris, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals and others (see HERE for more)
  • Vanderbilt’s Music Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha (see HERE for more)
  • students and faculty of Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music (see HERE for more)
  • Music Blogs (see HERE for more)
  • Radio Advocate Blogs (see HERE for more)
  • thousands on Facebook (see HERE for more)
  • dozens of articles in local and national media (see HERE for more)
…and now Chuck D of Public Enemy.

Chuck D, if unfamiliar (is that possible ?!?), is the mastermind behind Public Enemy, which is regarded by many, if not all, as the greatest and most influential hip hop/rap act to exist to date. Public Enemy take three slots (497, 300, and 48) on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Albums of All Time list.
This brings up the question once again, Vanderbilt University does have a public relations department, right? Why would Vanderbilt allow Vanderbilt Student Communications (VSC) – a hand-full of self-anointed arbiters of WRVU’s future – go rogue and propose a WRVU license sale at the clear detriment and clear protestations of 100s if not 1000s of students, alumni, and community members. The relentless VSC double-speak, stone-walling, laughable reasoning, and questionable comprehension in regard to the VSC proposed WRVU license sale would be funny if it weren’t being sourced at a location of higher learning and if the potential consequences weren’t so dire to a a vital and cherished institution – WRVU.
What you can do to help it send an email now expressing your objection to the sale of the station. Then follow through with as many of the other ideas on the ‘HOME’ page as possible. And please pass this information along to everyone you know. Please act now.
